GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Councilman George Wangemann says the new Linwood Reclamation Plant is "85 to 90 percent complete."

Wangemann recently updated the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors on the progress of the work. He said work is expected to be finished by next January on they five-million-gallons-a-day sewage treatment facility.

He reminded his audience that when the plant up and running, the old complex will be "demolished" and a small park created on the site.

The cost of the construction "not being paid for" with taxes but is being borne by "the ratepayers, the people who use the (city's) sewer service," Wangemann added.

Once the construction is completed, he said, there'll be a 45-day test run to be sure everything is in order and that it meets the environmental standards imposed by the state and federal governments, which are getting tighter and tighter.
