CUMMING - The Forsyth County Planning Commission has delayed until late August consideration of a controversial plan to turn a Cumming area golf course into a multi-use development.

A group of people who live around Lanier Golf Course have been fighting Wellstone LGC's proposal for a number of months.

Their concerns include traffic, crime, over-development, and the "inappropriate use of agriculturally zoned lands."

The Forsyth planning board is now set to consider the matter August 28.

Last May, opponents filled the Forsyth County Administration Building's Commissioners Meeting Room to speak out against the rezoning.

"The prospect of our elected officials deciding what is good for our neighborhoods, while ignoring the people who live here is blatantly absurd," declared Gerry Sullivan at the time. Sullivan was speaking as the head of a newly formed steering committee, Save Lanier Golf Course, LLC. "To use and old cliché from motion pictures I feel best describes the attitude of the residents of this community: We are mad as Hell, and we are not going to take it anymore!"
