CUMMING - They rolled away a set of construction barrels in Forsyth County Monday but it may not be that long before they are needed just down the same road.

A ceremony was held Monday signaling the end of one widening project on Georgia Highway 20, but plans are already in the works for a similar project on another section of the highway.

The state Department of Transportation plans an informational open house May 17 from 4:00-7:00 at Cumming Elementary School.

Georgia DOT engineers will be available to discuss the proposed project. There will be no formal presentation during the three-hour drop-in session.

The project proposes widening this portion of SR 20 to a four-lane divided highway with sidewalks on each side of the highway and a median.

Anyone unable to attend the public information open house may send comments on the project to Harvey Keepler, Georgia DOT, 3993 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, Georgia 30336. All comments will be considered in the development of the final project design and must be received by May 31, 2007.

After the open house, you can view the displays of the project at the Georgia DOT Area Office located at 2594 Gillsville Highway in Gainesville. The phone number at the DOT District office is 770-535-5759. Please call and make an appointment to ensure that someone is there to show you the project information.
