CUMMING - That brush fire on Sawnee Mountain in Cumming Monday morning eventually consumed nine acres - but caused no damage to several nearby homes.

Capt. Jason Shivers of the Forsyth County Fire Department says the first units on the scene discovered a blaze on the eastern slope of the mountain near four houses.

"They immediately sounded a second and third alarm because they realized the potential for disaster was great," he added.

Capt. Shivers says the fire was stopped before it could damage any of the houses.

The call came in about 1:30 and the fire was reported out shortly before noon, although some hot spots remained.
