JEFFERSON - A high school senior and a Colbert man are dead, and another man injured, in a crash near Jefferson that happened after the three attended a "Deaf Awareness Day" at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Georgia State Patrol trooper Curtis Bradshaw says 18-year-old passenger Kyle Redd of Jefferson and 24-year-old Destin James Hattaway were killed early Sunday when a pickup Hattaway was driving hit a tree head-on on Georgia 335.

Redd was a senior at Jackson County Comprehensive High School. Bradshaw says Redd was scheduled to graduate this weekend.

Another passenger, 30-year-old Brian Anthony Taylor of Hixson, Tennessee, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Bradshaw says all three men were hearing impaired and had spent Saturday at the amusement park attending the "Deaf Awareness Day." He says they met and became friends and were on their way home when the vehicle crashed into a pine tree about 3:00 Sunday morning.

Bradshaw says authorities believe Hattaway fell asleep at the wheel since there are no tire marks at the crash site.
