GAINESVILLE - Captain Donnie Jarrard of the Hall County Sheriff's Department has reported an arrest Thursday at Johnson High School. Shaquan Anthony McKensey, age 18, was taken into custody this afternoon at the school.

According to the arrest report, the "suspect ran into a classroom and yelled, 'He has a gun!' McKensey is believed to be the source of several rumors that have been started at Johnson High School, regarding a student bringing a gun to school." A follow-up investigation proved the suspect's remarks to be done as a prank.

In the wake of the horrific event this week at Virginia Tech, similar rumors have been circulating at Flowery Branch High School, which prompted Superintendent Will Schofield to post a message to parents on the system website regarding school safety and security.

Part of Schofield's message was that pranks and jokes related to gun possession at school are totally inappropriate. The letter warns that such disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Hall County Schools Spokesman Gordon Higgins said the school system and sheriff's department will continue to work together to enhance school safety and security.
