GAINESVILLE - You'll get a chance Tuesday to tell state and county officials what you think about a proposed four-lane connector in the Sardis area.

As we reported a few weeks ago, Hall County Department of Public Works and Utilities the state Department of Transportation will hold a Location and Design Public Information Open House on the project for three hours starting at 4:00 at Chestatee High School.

The proposal calls for a new four-lane road from the intersection of SR 60/Thompson Bridge Road and SR 283/Mt. Vernon Road to the intersection of Sardis Road and Chestatee Road.

The project proposes construction of a new four lane divided roadway beginning at the intersection of Sardis and Chestatee Roads and utilizing portions of Fran Mar Drive, Brackett Road and Ledan Road to terminate at the intersection of State Route 60/Thompson Bridge Road and State Route 283/Mount Vernon Road. It will include sidewalks on both sides of the new road.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public with an opportunity to view the proposed project, ask questions, and comment on the proposal, according to Harvey D. Keepler, State Environmental/Location Engineer for DOT.

It will be another of those informal, drop-in type sessions, with no formal presentation.

Anyone unable to attend the public information open house may send comments on the project to Harvey Keepler, Georgia DOT, 3993 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, Georgia 30336. All comments will be considered in the development of the final project design and must be received by May 15, 2007.

After the open house, you can view the displays of the project at the Georgia DOT District Office located at 2505 Athens Highway in Gainesville. The phone number at the DOT District office is 770-532-5526. DOT officials ask that you call and make an appointment to ensure that someone is there to show you the project information.
