A man, woman and their 5-month-old baby boy were found dead on Sunday in their home in an apparent murder-suicide, Canton police said.

The man and woman died at least a week ago of gunshots to the head, but the child lived until about two days ago, when he died of starvation, thirst and neglect, Canton police Cpl. Stacy Bailey said.

She said the baby was found in a swing looking toward the couple. The bodies of the adults were badly decomposed, she said, the baby less so.

The victims were identified as Emilio "Eulalio" Sandoval, 27, Maricruz Victorino-Gomez Sandoval, 23, both of Mexico, and baby Victor Hugo Sandoval, who was born in Cherokee County in October.

Authorities believe the woman first stabbed Sandoval, who then chased her with a handgun to the room where the baby was, shot her and then himself, Bailey said.

She said police are not investigating whether the couple was here legally. They had lived in Canton for about a year _ in the town home only a month _ and there was no history of problems, Bailey said.

The bodies were discovered when the landlady went to the apartment trying to collect rent. When she smelled something strange, she let herself in, discovered the bodies and called police.
