<p>CBS 46 News in Atlanta and WRDW-TV in Augusta took top awards for television reporting at the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association's banquet Saturday night.</p><p>In radio, NewsTalk 750 WSB in Atlanta won the top award in Class A. The winner in Class B was WDUN in Gainesville.</p><p>Class A covers large-market stations; Class B covers all other markets.</p><p>Awards for outstanding member cooperation went to WSB-TV in Atlanta, WALB-TV in Albany, WDUN and News/Talk 580 WGAC in Augusta.</p><p>Don Buckindail, new media manager at WMAZ-TV in Macon, was elected president of the GAPBA board, succeeding Susanna Capelouto, news director at Georgia Public Broadcasting in Atlanta.</p><p>Steve Lyons, hurricane expert at The Weather Channel, was the speaker at the banquet held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott.</p><p>The reporting entries for the year 2006 were judged by AP member radio and television stations in Michigan.</p><p>CBS 46 News won the Pacemaker award for outstanding news operation in Class A, taking first-place awards in Best Investigative Reporting, Best General Reporting, Best Series Reporting, Best Sportscast, Best Use of Sound, Best Weather Reporting and Best Newscast. The station also won honorable mention for Best Newscast.</p><p>In Class B, WRDW-TV won the Pacemaker award, taking first place for Best Investigative Reporting, Best Feature Reporting, Best Specialized Reporting, Best Use of Sound and Best Newscast. WCTV in Thomasville received honorable mention for Best Newscast.</p><p>In Class A TV, WXIA-TV's Brenda Wood won the Best/Anchor Reporter award. The award went to NBC Augusta WAGT-TV's Bridgett Williams in Class B. Honorable mention in Class B went to WALB-TV's Dawn Hobby.</p><p>In Class A Radio, WSB-AM took the Pacemaker award, with first-place awards in Best Spot News, Best Series Reporting, Best Staff Coverage, Best Feature Reporting, Best Documentary/News Special Programming, Best Sports Feature, Best Sportscast, Best Sports Program, Best Sports Play-by-Play, Best Specialized Reporting, Best Anchor/Reporter, Best Web Site and Best Newscast. The station also received honorable mention for Best Newscast.</p><p>In Class B, WDUN was the Pacemaker winner, with first-place awards in Best Spot News, Best Staff Coverage, Best Documentary/News Special Programming, Best Sports Program, Best Sports Play-by-Play, Best Web Site and Best Newscast. NewsTalk 580 WGAC received honorable mention for Best Newscast.</p><p>WSB's Sandra Parrish was named Best Anchor/Reporter in Class A Radio. WGST's David Hull received honorable mention. In Class B, NewsTalk 580 WGAC's Mary Liz Nolan was named the Best Anchor/Reporter. The station's Marsy McFerren received honorable mention.</p><p>The Pacemaker awards are based on a point system that includes first places and honorable mentions.</p><p>MORE</p>
