OAKWOOD - Life South Community Blood Center launched a New Year's Eve effort to get blood donors Monday in Oakwood.

While Shoppers at Sam's Club were busy picking up New Year's Eve supplies, Donor Recruiter Sondra Wallace was at the front door urging them to donate blood.

The goal with the 'Give One More Gift, Year END Challenge' blood drive was to get 60 units of blood by 5:00 p.m.to supply community hospitals

"Those busy schedules tend to cut down on the number of donations we receive in December and January and the need for blood never takes a vacation," Wallace said.,

Potential donors were enticed with fresh cookies, hot chili and souvenir hats and t-shirts.
