A Christmas gift from Mother Nature: rain

Posted 4:50AM on Wednesday 26th December 2007 ( 17 years ago )
GAINESVILLE - Santa, with some help from Mother Nature, left a much-needed Christmas gift for North Georgia: rain.

"At the end of one of the driest years ever in North Georgia, Santa is bringing some wet weather for Christmas day," Weather Channel meteorologist Bill Limmer said Tuesday.

Gaineville picked up .36 inches bringing the one-week total to 1.30 inches. Gainesville has recorded rain six of the past seven days, one of the longest stretches of rainy days in recent months.

But, the level of Lake Lanier continues to drop. At 6:00 Wednesday morning, it was 1050.84, down from 1050.85 Monday.

Weather officials say the skies should clear Wednesday, but we can look for more rain late this week.
