GAINESVILLE - There may be a housing slump but one developer is starting the new year with a pitch to county planners for a 261-lot subdivision west of Gainesville.

Portofino at Lake Lanier, LLC, wants to rezone 217 acres on both the east and west sides of Duckett Mill Road near Dawsonville Highway.

The item is on the agenda for the Hall County Planning Commission's January 7 meeting.

The agenda also includes a number of "non-residential" requests, including:

*a new retail center on three acres at Spout Springs and Hog Mountain roads;

*self-storage facilities at Mount Vernon Road and Corinth Drive;

*and, an office/warehouse complex on Hidden Hills Drive near Browns Bridge Road.
