East Tennessee beats Georgia 76-58 in Rainbow Classic

HONOLULU - Courtney Pigram scored 18 points to lead East Tennessee State to a 76-58 win over Georgia in the first round of the Rainbow Classic last night in Honolulu.

Andrew Reed and Kenyona Swader added 14 points each for the Buccaneers (5-5).

Jeremy Price was the only Georgia player in double figures with 10 points for the Bulldogs (6-2).

After trailing for the first 13 minutes of the game, East Tennessee State went on an 11-2 run to take control of the game, 26 -19, with 4:37 remaining in the first.

The Bulldogs led 32-23 at halftime.

In the second, East Tennessee State extended its lead to 20 following a three-minute, 12-2 run to go up 49-29, with 14:26 remaining in the game. Georgia responded with a 10-0 run of its own to pull to 49-39 with 12:09 remaining. But the Bulldogs would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

The Buccaneers shot 47.4 percent from the field despite making just two of their first 14 field goal attempts.

East Tennessee State advances to face St. Mary's in the semifinals of the Rainbow Classic this evening.
