New bridge opening at Exit 16

GAINESVILLE - The new southbound bridge on I-985 at Exit 16 in Oakwood is about ready for traffic.

But there's still a lot of work to be done in the reconstruction of the interchange, including demolition of the old bridge.

"...a traffic shift is scheduled for Thursday the 13th," state DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said. "Weather permitting, crews will scoot all 1-985 southbound traffic over onto the new bridge that crosses Mundy Mill Road."

In addition, according to Pope, "we will be opening an additional left turn lane at the southbound exit ramp onto State Route 53 (Mundy Mill). The new left turn lane will open by Thursday, too, and will allow more traffic to flow onto Mundy Mill from the exit ramp during a green light."
