Lanierland semis set for Friday; consolation round Tuesday

GAINESVILLE - The semifinals are set for the 48th annual Jackson EMC Lanierland basketball tournament.

The tournament will resume Tuesday at Johnson High School with the consolation brackets for both the boys and girls tournaments.

The semifinals are scheduled for Friday at the East Hall gym and offer compelling matchups in both the girls and boys brackets.

In the girls semifinal bracket, defending Lanierland champion East Hall will take on Flowery Branch, which knocked off the Lady Vikings on their home floor two weeks ago. The other semifinal pits Gainesville, the 2005 champion, against North Hall.

In the boys semifinal bracket, five-time defending champion East Hall will take on former coach Seth Vining and Lakeview Academy, which upset North Hall in the first round. The Vikings have won 12 of the last 13 Lanierland titles. In the other semifinal top-seed Flowery Branch will play Chestatee. The Falcons knocked off Chestatee two weeks ago. For the War Eagles its their first-ever appearance in the Lanierland semifinals.

The consolation games will have Johnson against West Hall and Chestatee against Lakeview Academy on the girls side and Gainesville against West Hall and Johnson against North Hall on the boys side.

Games Tuesday and Friday begin at 4 p.m. The action also begins at 4 p.m. Saturday with the finals slated for 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
