ATLANTA - The campaign to get more Hispanics registered to vote in Georgia for next year's elections has taken a new turn.

Georgia Spanish media representatives met recently with leaders of the Georgia Latino Vote and committed to "an historic agreement" of ongoing educational campaign of nonpartisan voter registration and voter education to focus upon the upcoming elections in 2008.

Target audiences include U.S. citizens who have moved to Georgia from other states, newly naturalized U.S. citizens, and U.S. born children of immigrants who will be of age to vote by November 2008.

Some of the partnership suggestions and actions already implemented included:

*Running Public Service Announcements (PSAs)
---Univision-Atlanta WUVG 34 is running two locally produced PSAs to promote voter registration since this summer and will continue until November 2008.
---Azteca America TV will also run PSA's to promote voter registration through November 2008.
---Atlanta Braves Julio Franco produced two radio PSA's to run on either English or Spanish format encouraging people to register to vote and to vote (Available for download on www.eslahora.com) .
---ClearChannel: Viva & El Patron have also committed to run radio PSA spots of the Atlanta Braves Julio Franco PSA and also generate some of their own.

*Print media will also develop material associated with voter registration and voter education.

---News stories to focus upon the reasons and importance of voting in the upcoming elections.

---Editorials & Opinion Editorials to focus upon the Georgia Latino Vote efforts.

*Collaborative voter registration and voter education events will be planned and coordinated.

*Other activities and events will be coordinated as a community education initiative "to ensure greater Latino participation in the upcoming elections."

Spanish media that attended were: Atlanta Latino Newspaper, Azteca America TV, ClearChannel-El Patron/Viva, Georgia Association of Latin American Journalists-Atlanta, Georgia Latino News, Hablemos Radio Show and Mundo Hispanico Newspaper.

With the demonstrated astounding growth rate of the Latino registered voter community, voter engagement, voter education and voter turn-out is going to be essential across the Latino community.
