Lessie Smithgall recognized as Philanthropist of the Year

GAINESVILLE - Lessie Smithgall was recognized Wednesday as 2007 Philanthopist of the Year by the North Georgia Community Foundation at a luncheon at the Chattahoochee Country Club.

Mrs. Smithgall has given her support to numerous organizations over the years including the Smithgall Woods and the Arts Council of Gainesville, but she said her time and efforts were not spent alone.

"Most of this was in partnership with my husband," she said. "He was the guiding light for me."

Ms. Smithgall said she and her late husband, Charles, mostly enjoyed the people they met while working with different organizations.
