CLARKESVILLE - Part of a well-traveled bridge in Habersham County - the one at Mount Vernon Mills - will be closed for about two weeks beginning next Monday.

But traffic on the Gainesville/Cornelia Highway in Alto is being shifted to the southbound lane starting today.

That, according to county officials, is to give motorists a chance to get used to new traffic operations before work on refurbishing the bridge begins.

They say the northbound lane will be re-marked to provide "2-Way Traffic" through the construction area.

In addition, they say access will be provided, "with as little delay as possible, at all times to Mt. Vernon Mills."

County officials also encourage the use of alternate routes around the construction area "whenever possible."
