Rainfall deficit now 18+ inches

GAINESVILLE - As the drought persists, the rainfall deficit for the year in Gainesville now tops 18 inches.

There was measurable rainfall at the airport on only one day during September... on the 14th when 1.33 inches fell. Normal rainfall for September is 4.26 inches.

September was the second-driest month so far this year in Gainesville. Only May was drier, when 1.23 inches of rain was recorded.

Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier continues to drop... down another tenth of a foot as of Tuesday morning. It is now 1058.87 which is 12.13 feet below full pool.
