GAINESVILLE - Readjusting after a year in Iraq is harder than previous deployments for an Army major from Gainesville - but it was easier this time around for his wife.

Maj. Marc Young says coming back from Iraq has been nothing like coming back from a year in Bosnia and six months in Haiti.

"For me, it's just being used to not being one-hundred percent engaged in everything at all times," Maj. Young said. "I mean, even when you are asleep over there, you're not completely disengaged. There's so much going on."

His wife, Dawn, says this time around was easier for her because she was busy with their daughter, Brooke, who is now six, and the activities she's involved in.

"I don't think I would have gotten through it as easily as I did without her."

Maj. Young said he doesn't miss Iraq "one bit." However, he is quick to add that he does miss the people he served with who are still there. "You almost feel like you left them, you know, like, you want to be back there with them, but at the same time you are so happy to be home."

While deployed to Iraq, Maj. Young was a frequent caller to The Martha Zoller Show on WDUN NEWS TALK 550 (like AccessNorthGa.com, a division of Jacobs Media Corporation). The couple commented Monday during an in-studio appearance on the program.
