GAINESVILLE - The Northeast Georgia History Center and its past-president, John W. Jacobs, Jr., were honored by Georgia's Secretary of State this week for their historic preservation efforts.

Jacobs and the History Center were recognized by Secretary of State Karen Handel with awards for "Excellence in Documenting Georgia's History."

Adrian Mixson, Hall County Library, made the nominations.

State Sen. Lee Hawkins of Gainesville presented a State Senate proclamation to Jacobs for his community and History Center service.

Also attending the event were Dennis Pitts of Gainesville, representing Lt. Gov. Casey Cage, and Darren Kendall, representing U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss.
