North Carolina names Raiders' Shoop offensive coordinator

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator John Shoop was hired Friday to fill the same position on Butch Davis&#39; staff at North Carolina.<br> <br> Shoop, who also has NFL coaching experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, began this season as the Raiders&#39; tight ends coach and was elevated to offensive coordinator for the final five games.<br> <br> ``I developed a great amount of admiration and respect for John&#39;s coaching and teaching abilities after coaching against him and watching him grow from an assistant to a coordinator in the NFL,&#39;&#39; Davis said. ``He not only does an excellent job tutoring the quarterback position, but he develops offenses that emphasize the playmaking ability of the team&#39;s personnel.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Shoop, 37, was mentioned as a candidate for the vacant Raiders&#39; head coaching job after Art Shell was fired. The Raiders&#39; offense finished last in the NFL this season with 168 points the fifth-lowest total in a 16-game season.<br> <br> ``I&#39;m thrilled to be at the University of North Carolina and working for Coach Davis,&#39;&#39; Shoop said. ``Our goal will be to develop an attacking offense that can compete at the highest level.&#39;&#39;
