<p>R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, is responding well to treatment after being placed in intensive care Friday, according to a Seminary administrator.</p><p>Mohler, 47, an outspoken evangelical leader, was hospitalized Dec. 27 after experiencing abdominal pain and underwent surgery at Baptist East Hospital to remove scar tissue from a 1980s operation. He was expected to be released after a few days, but suffered a setback earlier this week when blood clots developed in his lungs, forcing him to be moved to intensive care.</p><p>Russell Moore, the dean of the school of theology and senior vice-president of academic administration at the seminary, wrote on Mohler's Web site Friday night that Mohler's condition was improving.</p><p>"While his situation is still very serious, it seems that the doctors have his treatment well underway and he is recuperating well," Moore wrote.</p><p>Mohler has been the seminary's president for 14 years.</p><p>He also hosts a radio program carried by about 60 stations across the country that focuses on moral, political and cultural issues from an evangelical Christian perspective.</p>
