Apalachee rallies to beat Jackson County

JEFFERSON - It was another packed house at Panther Stadium and it turned out to be heartbreak for the Jackson County football team once again as Apalachee scored with 9 seconds left to take a 31-27 win over the Panthers.<br> <br> It was the second straight week that jackson County (0-2) has lost in the waning seconds. Last week the Panthers fell in overtime to Banks County. <br> <br> The first score came with 6:33 left in the first quarter on a touchdown pass from Apalachee's Corey Chambers to Dwight Ash for a 10-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.<br> <br> Jackson County didn't lay down though as Zach Gilbert took a handoff 60-yards for a score to tie the game up at 7-7.<br> <br> The Panthers weren't done scoring with 2:35 left in the second quarter as Kevin Jarrells went 34-yards for a touchdown to give Jackson County a 13-7 lead. The extra point was blocked.<br> <br> The first possession of the second half Apalachee was able to go 80-yards and score on a 1-yard touchdown run from Ryan Benellia. The Wildcats made the extra point to take a 14-13 lead.<br> <br> The fourth quarter started with Apalachee driving to Jackson County&#39;s 40 yard line but then fumbling and the Panthers jumping on the ball.<br> <br> Jackson County then went 60-yards and scored on Adarius Hendrix's run to make it 19-14. The Panthers went for two and made it 21-14.<br> <br> Apalachee tied the game at 21-21 on a score by Quaderious Deeton with six minutes left.<br> <br> Apalachee recovered a fumble, which led to a field goal to take a 24-21. <br> <br> The Panthers then answered right back by scoring with 42 seconds left on a 7-yard touchdown run to make a 27-24 lead.<br> <br> Apalachee wasn't done though as they drove 50-yards with 37 seconds left to score with nine seconds as Chambers hooked up with Randy Ruledge for the winning score.
