GAINESVILLE - A gun raffle is planned to benefit two Gaineville police officers who have been diagnosed with cancer.

If you buy a ticket, you'll be getting a chance on one of two new Glock 27 handguns. The drawing will be held November 17 at the police department.

Organizers say 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to the affected officers.

"I would like to clarify that the Gainesville Police Department is not sponsoring the benefit raffle," said Detective Kevin Gaddis. "The raffle is supported by the chief and the command staff but this is a project that was organized by the individual officers to benefit one of our own. We also would like to stress that the winner of the guns will be subject to a firearms background check before they can obtain the firearms, just as any private citizen who would purchase a firearm from a firearms dealer."

Tickets are $10.00 dollars each and can be purchased at Shulers Great Outdoors or the police department.
