Discount carrier to expand service at Detroit, Flint

<p>AirTran Airways is expanding service from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to add three Florida cities.</p><p>The discount carrier will begin daily nonstop flights from Detroit to Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers on Nov. 7. AirTran said it plans to add a second daily flight to Orlando on Nov. 7 and will resume seasonal daily flights to Sarasota on Dec. 5.</p><p>The expanded schedule announced Monday gives Orlando-based AirTran Holdings Inc. 14 daily departures from Detroit to seven cities.</p><p>Also Monday, AirTran said it will begin daily service between Flint's Bishop International Airport and Tampa on Nov. 15, and will resume daily service from Flint to Fort Myers on Dec. 21, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.</p><p>AirTran began serving Metro last November and currently offers nonstop flights between Detroit and Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando.
