Here's a summary of ongoing efforts to redevelop the four Georgia military bases slated to be closed by 2011 under the military's Base Realignment and Closure process:

_ FORT GILLEM: Local officials who want to build a mixed-use development on the site are negotiating with FEMA to change its plans to take about one-sixth of this base in Forest Park, south of Atlanta. Specific plans will become more clear once that question is resolved.

_ NAVAL AIR STATION-ATLANTA: Several government entities had sought overlapping property, but they have recently resolved their claims and agreed that the National Guard would take the property. The Guard, which could then lease parts of the property to the other agencies, is investigating potential environmental problems before making a decision.

_ NAVY SUPPLY CORPS SCHOOL: The local redevelopment authority plans to complete a comprehensive redevelopment plan by March. No federal agencies staked a claim on the property, so the authority is accepting proposals from government and nonprofit agencies through Nov. 8. Officials say the Athens site could house a medical campus, possibly involving the Department of Veterans Affairs, the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia.

_ FORT MCPHERSON: Veterans Affairs has expressed interest in a small portion of this base in southwest Atlanta and is waiting for an appraisal. Local officials say the VA presence is compatible with its plans and that they hope to put together a comprehensive vision for the site next year.
