WASHINGTON - Metro Gainesville is the 12th fastest-growing Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in the country - and four area counties are among the Top 25 when it comes to new homes.

The Census Bureau says the MSA report covers the five-year period between 2000 and 2005. The data was released Tuesday morning and is listed on the Bureau's Web site.

Just last week, a new report put the estimated population of Gainesville-Hall County at just over 163,000.

The Bureau says of that number, about 131,000 are white; 10,000 black; and, as we reported last week, 41,000 - or a fourth of the total population - is now Hispanic.

The median age of the population of Hall County is 32.3 years and 103,000 are 25 or older.

NEW HOMES

Georgia has six counties ranked in the top 25 around the country when it comes to new homes. Those in northeast Georgia are Fannin, Jackson, Forsyth and Barrow.

The Census Bureau said Tuesday Fannin County ranks 15th, Jackson 16th, Forsyth 23rd and Barrow 24th.

The number of new homes in Fannin increased by 7.1 percent between July 2004 and July 2005. The increase in Jackson was 7 percent.

Other Georgia counties making the list are Paulding, which was 12th, and Henry, 22nd.
