DAWSONVILLE - With the opening of a new Wal-Mart in Dawsonville, 350 people have new jobs and several non-profit agencies and organizations are nearly $30,000 richer.

The store, a 24/7 Supercenter, is located on Power Center Drive and features what company officials call "a new look and feel to Wal-Mart." (See separate story on AccessNorthGa.com Business page).

Officials say more than 1,200 people applied for the 350 jobs.

The $28,500 donated to the community from Wal-Mart's Good Works program includes $5,000 each to the Dawson County Board of Education, Dawson County Family Connection and Ric-Rack Resource Interaction Council.

Other local organizations receiving donations upon the store's opening include:
· Christ Fellowship Church
· Dawson County Chamber of Commerce
· Dawson County Emergency Services
· Dawson County Humane Society
· Dawson County Sheriff's Department
· Northeast Georgia Boy Scout Troop 109
· Prevent Blindness Georgia

Each Wal-Mart store has the opportunity for many organizations to receive grants on opening day and throughout the year through the Good Works community involvement program.
