ATLANTA - A report in an on-line basketball website said Wednesday that the Gainesville Knights, a pro basketball team that is part of the World Basketball Association, has been disbanded for the remainder of the 2006 season.

The WBA issued a press release saying the Knights and the Magic City Court Kings out of Birmingham, Ala., will not be participating in stage 2 of the WBA season. The Knights and Court Kings will be undergoing a restructuring period and plan to return for the 2007 season, the report said.

"We just couldn't find a venue to play in this year," Knights owner Curtis Richardson said Wednesday. "It's been an uphill struggle the whole season. What's unfortunate is that we felt like we had the talent to make a run at the (WBA) title this year. The players were disappointed."

The Knights played the entire season last year at the Gainesville High Gym. This year the two sides could not reach a deal and the Knights played one game at Buford high and another at the Butler Center in Gainesville but could not secure a permanent location.

As far as next year?

"Right now, I'm just burned out on all this so I don't know what the future holds for us," Richardson said. "But we'll look at it when the time is right."
