In the ruling, Walker said, "Based upon...Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law, [Jackson] meets the residency requirements and is qualified to be a candidate for State Senate District 50."
"This ruling is just as I expected and I look forward to the campaign," said Jackson, a Democrat, who now lives in Demorest. The post is now held by Nancy Schaefer of Turnerville, a Republican. Jackson, who then lived in White County, decided not to run for re-election to the seat after the 50th district lines were redrawn by the state Legislature.
Her legal residency had been challenged by a Habersham County doctor, Marc Chetta, in a letter last month to the Georgia Secretary of State's office, which oversees elections in Georgia.
