UNDATED - After hours of courthouse wrangling, Georgia, Florida and Alabama have agreed on a temporary deal to protect Florida's endangered mussels and still leave some water for Georgians to drink.
Saturday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the compromise lets the Army Corps of Engineers release 25-percent more water than it's done recently. That's more than Georgia wanted, but state officials say it can be done on a short-term basis.
There's optimism that the agreement might lead to a long-term settlement that would end the 16-year water wars between the three states.
