CLEVELAND - There's a move afoot to link White County with Atlanta via a widened county road that would link up with Georgia 400, according to Norton Native Intelligence Market Watch.

The Gainesville-based publication says White County commissioners are seeking state funds to improve Sandy Flats Road by proposing that the road be part of a four-lane route from the end of Georgia 400 near Dahlonega .

County Public Works Director David Griscom says, however, 2010 would be the earliest White County residents would see a highway route all the way from Atlanta to the future Cleveland bypass. The proposal calls for four-laning Sandy Flats to within a couple of miles of the end of Long Branch Road in Lumpkin, which the state is planning to widen to four lanes.
