UNDATED - No, your eyes are not deceiving you - gasoline prices in the Gainesville area, on a rapid rise, are now coming down. And, almost as fast as they were rising a few days ago.

Just two weeks ago, motorists were lamenting the return of $3-a-gallon gasoline (for the highest grade) and regular was knocking on the $3 door. But Prices stabilized stablized for a few days and have been steadily dropping recently. Thursday you could get regular in the Oakwood area for as low as $2.69.

According to georgiagasprices.com, which tracks gas prices statewide based on information from motorists, the cheapest in the state as of 1:00 Thursday afternoon was in Macon, where at least four outlets were selling regular for $2.59 a gallon. The highest was in Crawfordville and Villa Rica, $3.09. Ten cents cheaper, but still higher than most places were outlets in Braselton, Dawsonville and Cumming, where the price was $2.99 a gallon.
