Wolfpack pitcher Brackman out for season

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina State pitcher Andrew Brackman will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left hip, the school announced Wednesday.<br> <br> Brackman, a 6-10 sophomore right-hander who is also a forward on the school&#39;s basketball team, is expected to recover fully after four weeks of rest and up to four weeks of rehabilitation, according to the school&#39;s medical personnel.<br> <br> Brackman (1-3) first reported the injury March 6, the day after he pitched 2 1/3 innings against UCLA, allowing five earned runs in a 13-2 loss. He hasn&#39;t pitched since April 21 at North Carolina, when he gave up five runs on nine hits in seven innings. He finishes the season with a 6.35 ERA in seven starts for the Wolfpack (34-17, 15-11 Atlantic Coast Conference).<br> <br> As a freshman, Brackman was 4-0 with a 2.09 era in 10 appearances.<br> <br> (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press.
