Evelyn Wallace lives on Bart Johnson Road. She says her son, who lives next door, showed up about 4:30 Saturday morning, saying he heard a noise in the barn about a block behind her house.
Evelyn's husband, Cecil, and the son, Kenneth Wallace, then took guns to the barn and found the two pit bulls attacking a cow. The pit bulls then ran towards the men, but before the dogs could hurt them, the men shot the dogs.
"It's so sad to think that there are dogs like this that can run loose," Evelyn said. "One of them had a collar with a number on it. The other just had a leash on it."
The cow is alive but badly hurt.
