SECAUCUS, N.J. - The Atlanta Hawks drew the fifth pick in the N-B-A draft in Tuesday night's draft lottery.

The Toronto Raptors got the top choice, followed by the Chicago Bulls, who got the pick from the New York Knicks. Charlotte gets to draft third, then Portland, followed by Atlanta.

The draft order from number six through number 10 will be Minnesota, Boston, Houston, Golden State and Seattle.

The Hawks were considered to have the fourth-best chance of drawing the Number One pick in the draft and were guaranteed to get no lower than Number Seven.

The Hawks drew the Number Two pick in the lottery last year and drafted forward Marvin Williams of North Carolina.

The Hawks improved from 13 wins in 2004-05 to 26 wins this season despite criticism that general manager Billy Knight should have drafted point guard Chris Paul, the overwhelming choice as N-B-A rookie of the year.

Point guard remains an obvious need for the Hawks this year. Knight has said he will again take the best player available instead of drafting to bolster a weak position. He says the Hawks can use free agency to add a player.
