Bowater names new president

<p>Paper and forest products company Bowater has hired David J. Paterson as president and chief executive officer.</p><p>Paterson, 51, is executive vice president of the building products division of rival Georgia-Pacific Corp. He will succeed Arnold Nemirow, who is retiring.</p><p>Paterson has worked for Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific since 1987, which he joined after nine years with Continental Forest Industries and Southwest Forest Industries.</p><p>"David brings a vast amount of business experience as well as a successful record of accomplishments to Bowater," Nemirow said. "I am confident that he will provide the strong leadership necessary to further our company's financial recovery."</p><p>Paterson, a 1976 graduate of Cornell University with a masters in business administration from the University of Michigan, will take over at Bowater on May 1.</p><p>Nemirow plans to continue serving as Bowater's nonexecutive chairman until later this year. He has been chief executive of the Upstate company since 1995.</p>
