That word came from the governor's office Tuesday morning.
The rest of the 48th is expected at Fort Stewart four days later.
About 4,500 members of the 48th deployed to the Mideast about a year ago. Some members are already back. They are the advance team which returned several weeks ago to prepare for the return of the full brigade.
Just last week, Charlie Company went on the brigade's final patrol in the combat zone and was told to begin packing up, with the rest of the group, for the return home.
