CORAL GABLES, Fla. - North Carolina's Andrew Miller pitched six strong innings to remain unbeaten, and the Tar Heels survived a Miami rally to beat the slumping Hurricanes 8-7 on Friday night.<br>

Miller (7-0) allowed five hits and four runs, only two of them earned.<br>

Tim Federowicz hit a two-run home run for North Carolina (26-6, 8-5 Atlantic Coast Conference). Benji Johnson and Brian Steed added solo shots, and Chad Flack had three hits and scored twice for the winners.<br>
<br>
Richard O'Brien hit two home runs including the first allowed by Miller in 53 innings this season and had four RBIs for the Hurricanes (23-11, 8-5), who lost their fourth straight.<br>
<br>
North Carolina's Andrew Carignan pitched two shutout innings for his seventh save, keeping his ERA at 0.00. Carignan struck out the last four batters he faced, all swinging, and got O'Brien for the final out.<br>

Miami starter Carlos Gutierrez (7-3) allowed six hits and five runs, four earned, in 3 2-3 innings.<br>
<br>
O'Brien's first homer of the night drew Miami within 5-3 in the fourth inning, but North Carolina built a five-run lead after Federowicz's homer in the fifth and Seth Williams' RBI single in the sixth.<br>
<br>
After Miller left in the seventh, Miami scored four quick runs to claw within 8-7. Tommy Giles hit an RBI double to help the rally, and he scored two batters later on O'Brien's second homer of the night.<br>
<br>
The Hurricanes got no closer, stranding the potentially tying run at third base in the eighth.<br>
