Though this year's Tour de Georgia is bypassing Gainesville, the Downtown Gainesville Gran Pix Criterium is returning.
Criteriums feature riders completing each lap in about one minute - and the Gainesville event will be run over a downtown street course on the night of April 8. Included, according to Main Street Gainesville officials, who made the announcement Monday, will be a Kid's Race, a Women's Pro/Am at 7:30 and other amateur events throughout the evening - with the main event, the Pro-Am, starting at 9:00.
Some of the featured teams to watch are traveling from Florida, the Carolinas and from all over Georgia to be a part of the event. Other events include the Kid's Race at 6:30; the Women's Pro/Am at 7:30; and other amateur events throughout the evening. The main event, the Pro-Am, begins at 9:00. Downtown Gainesville will be full of games and activities for the kids and adults, too, starting at 3:00.
Main Street says downtown restaurants will have expanded sidewalk cafes along the course.
Gainesville will join with seven other cities in Georgia to host the seventh leg of the Maxxis Georgia Cup series.
