GAINESVILLE - No one was injured, but the kitchen of an apartment on the northside of Gainesville was heavily damaged by an early morning fire Saturday.

Clint Miller, battalion chief for the city fire department, says the call came in around 6 o'clock to Ridgecrest Apartments off Park Hill Drive - and that the fire was caused by food left on the stove. Miller said the fire had already gotten into the walls and was trying to get into the attic of the second-floor unit.

In addition to heavy fire damage to the kitchen, the rest of the apartment suffered some smoke damage.

Miller says the two people who lived there were at home, but were not injured.
