No uptick in construction despite warm weather

GAINESVILLE - The unusually warm weather notwithstanding, new housing starts in January in Gainesville and Hall County didn't change much from the past couple of years.

The number of permits issued last month for new, single-family housing was about the same as last January and in 2004.

There were thirteen such permits issued in the city, one-hundred-four in unincorporated parts of the county.

Last year, a total of 102 were okayed; there were 112 in January 2004.
