GAINESVILLE - Hall County School Board members want better test scores to meet federal "No Child Left Behind' mandates and Monday night they looked at better preparing the students.

School Superintendent Will Schofield compared the State Education Department's 'Achievement Pyramid' to getting a football team ready before the big game.

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Eloise Barron said the program would prepare students for CRCT tests but not interrupt daily teaching and learning.

"It's to look at individual students and see where their weaknesses are the last 30 days before the test," Dr. Barron said.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Board members discussed bringing back an attendance policy to system high schools.

Superintendent Schofield said it's similar to the previous policy to replace the one they abolished last year.

"And that is if you miss eight days of school you'll be denied credit and you'll have to come in and explain to a committee why you missed eight days of school," Schofield said.

The Board makes a decision at their next regular meeting to start a pilot policy next spring at Chestatee, Johnson and West Hall High Schools.

RETIREES LUNCHEON

Hall County's education retirees got an invitation from the School Board for fellowship and fun later this month.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Richard Hill said the annual Retired Teachers Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled for Monday, December 18th, at 11:30 a.m. at Chestatee High School.

"It's for any teacher who ever worked for Hall County and retired from the School System, it's a reunion or a homecoming," Dr. Hill said.

Hill added along with a holiday meal Chestatee High students have an entertainment program in store for the former teachers.
