DURHAM, N.C. - Duke sophomore Jamal Boykin, who has been suffering from mononucleosis, has decided to leave the university, school officials said Friday.<br>

Boykin has missed Duke's last six games since being diagnosed in late November with mono. He returned to his home in Los Angeles last week and told Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski he didn't plan to return.<br>

``Jamal is a great young man and we wish him the best in his future,'' Krzyzewski said. ``We're friends and we totally support him through his illness, his impending transfer and whatever family concerns he has.''<br>

Boykins, a 6-7, 230-pound forward, averaged 1.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in three games this year. He averaged 1 point and nearly a rebound a game in 26 appearances last season.<br>

Boykins is the second member of his highly regarded recruiting class to leave Duke. Eric Boateng, a 6-10 high-school all-American, transferred to Arizona State.
