CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN - State troopers say a tractor-trailer that overturned on Winder Highway near Chestnut Mountain Friday morning was trying to avoid another big rig at the time. The second truck did not stop.

"The tractor trailer that caused it wasn't hit," said Trooper J. Thompson. "But, he was the cause of the accident."

Samantha Nash was a witness.

"I heard honk, honk, honk," she said. "I looked in my rear view mirror and I looked back and I saw the hog feed truck start to serve and I said Lord don't let the truck flip over, and it fipped over."

The road was closed near Martin Road because of the 8:30 accident and reopened at 12:50p.m.

Thompson said after the 18-wheeler overturned it was hit by a car, which crush the cab and trapped the driver.

Motorist and witness Mariah Wilson assisted the driver of the passenger car.

"He rolled out of the car and laid on the ground," she said. "I can't die, was the first thing he told me. I can't die, my kids."

Two people who were injured - one from each vehicle - were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
