LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas tried a reverse pass the same play that worked for a touchdown last weekend against Mississippi State but LSU defended it well.
Receiver Robert Johnson, who was Arkansas' starting quarterback at the beginning of the season, tried to throw to Ben Cleveland. The ball was tipped in the air, and Cleveland couldn't quite make the catch.
Against Mississippi State, quarterback Casey Dick lined up at receiver and threw to Marcus Monk for a touchdown after taking the ball on the reverse.
Interestingly, both plays were run from the same spot the opposing team's 35-yard line.
News of Texas A 12-7 win over Texas was posted on the scoreboard in the second quarter. A Longhorns' loss would normally be greeted with loud approval in Arkansas, but the Razorbacks had just allowed a touchdown to fall behind 14-6, and the crowd made little noise.
LSU has one player on its roster from Arkansas center Brett Helms of Stuttgart. LSU assistant coach Bradley Dale Peveto was an assistant at Arkansas in 1994 and 1995.
Briefly ... National League Most Valuable Player Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies was at the game. Howard's brother, Chris, is LSU's associate athletic director for compliance. ... Jeremy Davis' missed extra point for Arkansas was his second of the season. The Razorbacks have missed three as a team. ... LSU kicked a short, high kickoff after taking a 14-6 lead. Arkansas' Felix Jones just barely arrived in time to field the bouncing ball. He was hit immediately at the 24.
