At least 10 middle school students have been suspended after a teacher confiscated a videotape that showed them fighting.

The video shows the boys fighting at their bus stop and another clip shows them fighting in the school, Appling Middle School principal Robert Stevenson said.

"They said they were just playing," Stevenson said. "I was disturbed by it."

The video was made with a handheld video camera that one of the students probably smuggled into the school, Stevenson said. School policy forbids bringing video cameras.

Campus police are reviewing the tape, Stevenson said.

Campus Police Chief Russell Bentley said Wednesday that he has not interviewed the students for possible motives.

"That's never a way to settle a dispute," Bentley said. And if students were just playing, "Horseplay can escalate and get someone hurt."

___

HASH(0x1cd9c7c)
