Chick-fil-A passes $2 billion sales mark

<p>Chick-fil-A Inc. reported Monday more than $2 billion in sales so far this year, crediting in part the addition of milkshakes to its menu.</p><p>The Atlanta-based company _ the 25th largest restaurant chain in the U.S. _ took just six years to double the $1 billion mark in yearly sales that the family-owned company surpassed in 2000, according to a company news release.</p><p>The chain, which is on track to top its 13.1 percent sales growth from last year, will open 76 new restaurants across the country by the year's end.</p><p>Chick-fil-A introduced Hand-Spun Milkshakes a year ago. During the summer months, some stores reported more milkshakes sales than chain's staple chicken sandwich.</p><p>Chick-fil-A has 1,280 restaurants in 37 states, spanning from Georgia to California to Massachusetts. The company will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.</p>
