ETSU 76, Mercer 70

<p>Brad Nuckles scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds and East Tennessee State hung on for a 76-70 win over Mercer on Thursday night.</p><p>East Tennessee State (4-4 overall, 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) led 38-32 at halftime but the Bears (1-4, 0-1) rallied to take a 46-44 lead on Calvin Henry's layup with 16:18 to play.</p><p>The game was tied 56-56 after Ross Alacqua hit a 3-pointer for Mercer with 9:41 to play. The Buccaneers then went on a 12-3 run capped by Nuckles' layup with 4:43 left for a 68-59 lead.</p><p>Mercer then went on a 9-0 run, including a pair of free throws by Shaddean Aaron that tied the score at 68 with 2:13 to play. Mike Smith's layup then gave the Bucs the lead for good, and he hit another with 1:21 to play to extend the lead to 72-68.</p><p>Alacqua led Mercer with 19 points and James Florence had 15. Smith and Courtney Pigram scored 13 points apiece for East Tennessee State.</p>
